JAMB Plans Ottawa UTME Centre for Nigerians in Canada From 2027

Bagale Pulse News Brief | 6 October 2026

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board is working towards opening a UTME centre in Ottawa, Canada, for the 2027 examination, according to reporting published on 6 October 2026.

The proposed centre would serve eligible Nigerians in Canada and other parts of North America seeking admission to Nigerian tertiary institutions. JAMB says it would reduce the need to travel to Nigeria solely to take the examination.

The plan followed discussions during a visit by Registrar Segun Aina to the Nigerian High Commission in Ottawa. In a separate report, Punch quoted the registrar as saying the purpose was to widen educational access, rather than generate revenue.

The announcement is a proposal for the next examination cycle. It should not be mistaken for confirmation that candidates can already book a seat at the Ottawa centre.

Families considering the option will still need JAMB’s confirmed registration arrangements, eligibility rules and centre details before making examination or travel plans.
