Kano Approves Promotions for 18,984 Education Workers

Bagale Pulse News Brief | 6 October 2026

Kano State has approved the implementation of promotions for 18,984 teaching and non-teaching employees of its State Universal Basic Education Board, according to a report published on 6 October 2026.

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf approved the January and July 2026 promotion cycles, with about ₦235.1 million earmarked for the associated salary adjustments across the state’s 44 Local Government Education Authorities.

SUBEB said it had completed eligibility checks and salary calculations. The board described timely promotions as important to staff motivation and better service delivery in basic education.

For affected workers, the practical issue now is implementation: when the adjustments appear in their pay and how individual promotion records are communicated. Approval of the funding should not be confused with confirmation that every eligible employee has already received the increase.

The development puts teacher welfare back in focus as states face pressure to improve the conditions under which public schools operate.
