Manufacturers Report ₦1.35 Trillion Alternative Power Bill for 2025
Bagale Pulse News Brief | 6 October 2026
Nigeria’s manufacturers spent an estimated ₦1.35 trillion on alternative electricity in 2025, the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria said in a report published on 6 October 2026.
That compares with roughly ₦1.1 trillion in 2024, an increase of about 23 per cent. MAN President Francis Meshioye raised the concern at the association’s 54th annual general meeting and Made-in-Nigeria Exhibition in Lagos.
The association said spending on self-generated power was absorbing money that businesses could otherwise direct towards expansion and technology. It also identified financing, logistics, imported inputs and weak consumer purchasing power as sources of pressure.
The figures concern manufacturers’ estimated spending in 2025; they are not a new electricity tariff or a bill for individual households.
For consumers, the wider significance is the strain on local production. When factories face high operating costs, maintaining competitive prices and investing in more capacity becomes harder. The association’s message is that industrial growth needs dependable energy alongside broader improvements in the business environment.
