Nigerian Academy of Science Pairs 25 Young Researchers With Senior Mentors

Bagale Pulse News Brief | 6 October 2026

The Nigerian Academy of Science has introduced a six-month mentorship programme connecting 25 early-career researchers with 25 experienced Nigerian scientists.

Voice of Nigeria reported the initiative on 5 October 2026, with further coverage appearing on 6 October. The Research Leaders Mentorship programme began with an orientation workshop on 7 September, so the recent reports describe an initiative already under way.

The academy says participants are matched according to their research interests, professional goals and specialisations. Mentors include academy fellows and other established researchers.

Planned activities cover research progress, career development, grant proposals, scientific communication and professional networks. The programme is intended to help address the limited access to guidance and collaboration that can slow the progress of younger scientists.

This is a report about the selected group and the programme’s structure. The cited announcement does not establish that a new application window is currently open. Its broader significance is the investment in sustained support for Nigeria’s next generation of researchers.
