North-East Governors Renew Mambila Hydropower Push and Back Regional Energy Plans
Bagale Pulse News Brief | 6 October 2026
North-East governors have called for faster progress on the Mambila hydropower project in Taraba State, while supporting a more coordinated approach to energy across the region.
The position came from their 13th forum meeting in Maiduguri on 3 October and was reported again by Premium Times on 5 October. Borno Governor Babagana Zulum signed the communiqué, which Adamawa Governor Ahmadu Fintiri read.
The forum said a recent arbitration decision offered an opportunity to move the long-delayed project forward. It also encouraged states to expand solar power and mini-grids and pointed to Dadinkowa’s contribution to the national grid.
The governors backed cooperation on additional CNG and LNG stations as part of efforts to reduce transport costs.
For residents and businesses in Adamawa and neighbouring states, the relevance is practical: more dependable electricity and transport options. These remain commitments and calls for action; the communiqué did not announce that Mambila had begun generating power.
