NPA Sets Out Plans to Reduce Export Delays and Expand Inland Port Services

Bagale Pulse News Brief | 6 October 2026

The Nigerian Ports Authority says it is working to reduce obstacles facing non-oil exporters by improving cargo processing and extending port services further inland. The plans were reported on 6 October 2026.

NPA Managing Director Abubakar Dantsoho discussed the programme at the Abuja International Trade Fair. He said the transfer of inland dry-port management and development functions to the authority would help businesses located far from coastal ports.

According to the NPA, exporters in northern and central Nigeria stand to benefit from completing more clearance and documentation closer to their operations. Dedicated Export Processing Terminals are also intended to bring sorting, packaging, certification and customs documentation together.

The authority linked these measures to increased exports of agricultural commodities and solid minerals.

For businesses, the key test will be the actual time and cost of moving goods through the system. The announcement describes the NPA’s direction and intended benefits; it does not mean that all port delays have already disappeared.
